You Are the Light of the World
I was thinking the other day about what Jesus said to his disciples many years ago. After telling the disciples about all the people who deserve to be blessed–to be given the gift of happiness–Jesus, in Matthew 5:14, says this, “You are the light of the world….” And then I thought about some of the tools that I have in my tool box. Do you have tools that you use to help your parents or siblings out?
In my toolbox, I have a hammer that helps build things, a level to make sure things are straight, a tape-measure to see a how long or short something is, and flashlight to help me see when it gets dark. Additionally, I have a Bible in my toolbox. Why a Bible? Because the Bible provides me with not only the tools to live like Jesus, but it provides me with instructions on how to live like Jesus. And these instructions help me to realize that Jesus is the light of my life. He helps me see, like my flashlight, when things are dark and scary and terrifying. Because I have Jesus in my life, my toolbox is complete.
And now with Jesus in your life, I hope that you are able to help him build his kingdom. With the help from your parents or siblings, you can use the hammer to build the walls–the walls that give support–check to see if everything is level and good by using the level–making sure that the bubble is between the two lines–and you can use the tape-measure to make sure that you are not to far away from Jesus. Lastly, you can use the flashlight to help others see the kingdom in which you helped Jesus build for them and yourself. With your toolbox and Bible “You are the light of the world….”
We can remember this by singing, “This little light of mine.” “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”
Remember that you are the light of the world because Jesus is in your heart.
Your Friend, Holy Spirit!
