The Lamb is Mowing the Lawn!?

Hello Friends,

It’s finally summer vacation! Are you excited? Do you have any exciting plans: taking any trips, staying home, going on adventures, spending time with friends, relaxing? What do you want to do this summer during your three months of no homework? Whatever you end up doing, I hope and pray you have a wonderful and enjoyable summer vacation!

Thinking about summer vacation, I can’t help but think about the many years that I spent mowing lawns during the summer. I know what you are thinking: “Who wants to work while on vacation?” I really didn’t mind doing it. I got to be outside multiple hours a day helping people and making some money on the side. It was a good summer gig, if you ask me. By the time I graduated high school, I had about ten customers and was even mowing for a landscape business. I still enjoyed my time off from school, but I also enjoyed doing some work. To this day, I still do most of my yard work during the summer months.

But now, instead of just mowing the grass and being done with it until the following week, I catch myself thinking about how cutting grass is sort of like what Jesus does in our life every day. Let me explain; but first, let me start by sharing with you an interesting story that I heard on the news a few days ago. The story begins: With the weather being so pleasant, many of you have probably been enjoying being outside: working in the garden, planting flowers, sprucing up the landscape, going for walks, and/or just sitting outside. For many of you, this is the perfect mowing weather. However, if you are getting tired of mowing already and want to spend more time in the garden, there’s a solution for you. I recently came across an article featuring Shepherd Corey, from Northern Virginia, who rents out his sheep to customers who need their yard mowed or for the weeds to disappear. So, if you want your yard taken care of but want more time to do other things, then give Lamb Mowers a try! Your yard will look “sheep-shape”!

The sheep were mowing the yard!? They were eating the grass and eating the weeds! Can you imagine, walking outside on a Saturday morning to find a herd of sheep in your front yard eating the grass while a shepherd stands off in the distance directing the sheep where to “mow” next? For some of you, seeing sheep outside is an every day occurrence. But for others, seeing sheep, let alone sheep that are eating the grass, is a sight that is far and in-between: it just doesn’t happen all that often. Nevertheless, there are sheep at there that are in the mowing business, getting rid of the weeds and dead grass.

You know, Jesus is often called the Lamb of God as well as the “good shepherd.” As the good shepherd, he leads us where to go, what pasture to be in, and to those who need help in some capacity. As the Lamb of God, he takes away our sins and gives us a new life. To some regard, Jesus is like the sheep mowing the yard. Jesus helps us get rid of the weeds–the bad stuff–in our life so that we can be made clean. He trims things down by only giving us what we can handle. He makes us look good by reminding us of our courage and how brave we are. He does some much needed work in our life so that we can be a better version of ourselves. Overtime, the weeds will come back and grass will grow because sometimes we feel like we don’t need Jesus or we did something that Jesus wouldn’t approve of. But thank goodness for Jesus’ love. Through his love for us, he comes back and does some more yard work in our life!

To this day, I enjoy mowing and being outside and doing work during summer vacation because it reminds me of the work that Jesus is doing in my life every day. And if Jesus is willing to remove my “weeds” and make everything look beautiful, then maybe I can do the same thing for him. It’s amazing what mowing teaches us about Jesus. It’s amazing how a herd of sheep eating weeds and mowing can remind us of the work of Jesus Christ! The next time you go outside and notice how everything is mowed, let that be a reminder of how Jesus is working in your life!

Enjoy your summer vacation doing whatever you want to do!

Your Friend, Holy Spirit!
