Our Pumpkin Prayer!

Hello Friends!

Happy Halloween week! I have a few Halloween jokes for you! What monster plays tricks on Halloween?–Prank-enstein!  What kind of music do mummies love?–Wrap music. And what is a monster’s favorite dessert?–I scream! Hahahahaha

With Halloween approaching fast, I’m sure we are all excited to dress up in our costumes and eat all the candy we can get! What are you dressing up as for Halloween? Growing up I remember dressing up like a ninja, a rock star, a mad scientist, a vampire, and I’m sure I dressed up like other characters as well but I can’t remember. This year, I originally wanted to go as a donkey since a donkey is the only animal with a cross on its back; and since Emily and I’s trunk-or-treat was Noah’s Ark, I figured dressing up like an animal seemed fitting! But now I’m thinking I want to dress up like Blippi… or even a pumpkin! If I were to dress up like a pumpkin, I bet you’re thinking that I am going to go as a Jack-o-lantern that has big eyes, a triangle shaped nose, and a mouth filled with fangs. That does sound pretty scary. But I am thinking of going as God’s pumpkin….the God-o-lantern! In order to help me think about my costume a little more, I was wondering if you could help me. As I carve out my design on a smaller pumpkin, could you pray with me?

Dear God,

Open my mind so I can learn about You (cut the top of the pumpkin).

Take away all my sin and forgive me for the wrong things I do (clean out the inside).

Open my eyes so Your love I will see (cut the eyes out in heart shapes).

I’m sorry for turning up my nose to all You’ve given me (cut a nose in the shape of a cross).Open my ears so your word I will hear (cut the ears shaped like the Bible).

Open my mouth so I can tell others You are near (cut the mouth in the shape of a fish).

Let your light shine in all I say and do (place a candle inside and light it)!

Because God, I want to always love you!

AMEN.

Thank you so much for helping me get my Halloween costume ready! Going as a God-o-lantern is way better than any old, scary, Jack-o-lantern or ninja or donkey or even Blippi. Now, let’s figure out who is handing out the best candy this year!

Your Friend, Holy Spirit (Ghost)!
