God’s Word, Our Bible!
Hello Friends,
Well, most of the leaves have fallen, the grass has stopped growing, the flowers are no longer blooming, and the sun is setting earlier. Fall has arrived and is beginning to leave its mark on God’s creation. Winter is certainly upon us…. However, I am blessed that the temperatures haven’t been too cold up to this point! How have you been enjoying the Fall season?
For many people, after Fall leaves, find themselves stuck inside: watching movies or shows, doing some much needed cleaning and reorganizing, and maybe working on a few puzzles in between creating some new creations in the kitchen. Others, myself included, may indulge themselves in a good book or two. Do you like to read? Are their any fun books that you are eager to read when it gets too cold to be outside? Who is your favorite author?
Books are great because they can teach us things and tell exciting stories filled with adventure, twists and turns, and even superheroes/heroines. We can learn so much when we read a book! When I was younger, my favorite book was I Love You Stinky Face. My mom would read that to me at least once a week and no matter how many scenarios I would come up with to challenge her love for me, she would also tell me, “I love you (stinky face).”As I got a little older, I found myself drawn and captured by the characters in Andrew Clements’ books. Clements’ books are chapter books which means they can take more time to read. But in each book, the main character struggles with some sort of issue: not fitting in at school, afraid to share new ideas, getting lost in imaginations, overcoming the feeling of being lonely and insecure, and finding ways to deal with fear and hurt. These characters, although made up, were real to me because I felt like each of them when I was your age; and because of them, I was able to overcome my struggles. You see, books can change your life!
The idea of reading books has got me thinking about one book in particular: the Bible. Do any of you have a Bible? Have any of you ever read any story from the Bible? Now this book may appear to be huge, scary, and overwhelming. Depending on the version you get, it might not have any pictures, just a lot and a lot and a lot of words! However, it is life-changing. And it talks about love and forgiveness and grace and the story of Jesus Christ. It talks about everything we need to know when it comes to living our best life!
Furthermore, what we need to know is that the Bible is God’s Word. Everyone say, “God’s Word.” The Bible is the greatest book of all time. It contains God’s words to us, and they’re helpful to lead, comfort, instruct, and encourage us. Unlike many of the other books we read that tell make-believe stories, the books in the Bible are 100% true, meaning they happened in real life. And the people in the Bible were real people–with some pretty tough names to pronounce.
The Bible is made up of 66 books. There are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. Despite there being so many books in the Bible, God’s Word tells one great story. The story of the Bible is all about the one true God who created everything and loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to save us. That’s why the Bible is the most amazing book. No matter how many times you read it, God can always teach you something new. Like I said earlier, it changes our life. In a way, the Bible helps us to become more like Jesus each and every day. But, we must be willing to read these stories and learn about them and grow through them.
Today, I invite you to find a Bible and open it up: read a few stories or have someone read a story to you. Let the word of God come to life before your very eyes! God gave us this book for a reason, so let’s word what He has given to us!
Let us Pray: Dear God, thank You for the Bible. We are grateful that You love us so much that You sent Your Son Jesus, and You tell us all about it in the Bible. Help us make time for Your Word and take delight in it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Your Friend, Holy Spirit!
