Earth Day
by Sarah Dart
An Earth Day message for the kids.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
And God called the dry land Earth; … and God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:10
On Wednesday, April 22 we celebrate Earth Day. This good Earth that God created is certainly worth celebrating. I remember the first Earth Day celebration. (NOT THE CREATION OF EARTH…I’M NOT THAT OLD!) It was 1970. I was in 3rd grade. I remember going outside under a tree with the class, but that is all I remember. We probably discussed the importance of ecology and protecting our planet. If students were in school this week, they would probably get to go outside and do special activities to celebrate Earth Day. But no one is in school. Too bad. Oh wait! You can still celebrate Earth Day even though you’re not in school. I mean…you’re still on the Earth, right?!! God created this earth; and He wants us to enjoy it, use it for our survival, and take care of it! Celebrate Earth, first, by thanking God for creating it. Then, you could go outside, lie in the sun, climb a tree, eat a picnic lunch, run in the yard, pick up some trash, watch the sunset, count the stars. Hey, the sky’s the limit Have Fun! God created this Earth, and it is good! Let’s celebrate that.
Thank you, God!
