The Reverend Jeff D. Van Dyke, a native of Louisville, Illinois, graduated from North Clay High School, Louisville in 1984. He graduated from Asbury College, Wilmore, KY in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biblical studies, and from Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY in 1992 with a Master of Divinity degree. He studied toward a Doctor of Ministry degree in Worship and Preaching at Asbury Theological Seminary from 2007 through 2012. He is currently studying toward a Doctor of Ministry degree in Fresh Expressions and Church Renewal at United Theological Seminary, Dayton, OH. The Rev. Van Dyke was ordained Deacon by Bishop Woodie W. White in the Southern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church in May 1991, and ordained Elder by Bishop David J. Lawson in the Southern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church in June 1995.
The Rev. Van Dyke is in his twenty-ninth year of pastoral ministry having served at Enfield and Wesley Chapel United Methodist Churches, White County, Illinois 1992-1995; Mount Vernon Epworth and Hopewell UMCs, Jefferson County, IL 1995-2003; Garrison Temple UMC, Wayne County, IL 2000-2003; First UMC of Altamont, IL 2003-2012; First UMC of Marion, IL 2012-2016; Arcola UMC, Arcola, IL 2016-2018; Evangelical UMC, Oblong, IL 2018-present; and Dogwood Prairie and Seed Chapel UMCs, Crawford County, IL 2021-present.
Jeff and his wife, Sheryl married in September 2019. Sheryl serves as Minister of Youth/Children at First UMC, Olney, IL and is studying toward a Master of Divinity degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. Jeff has three adult children and one step-son. His elder son, Jacob and wife, Sarah both serve in the US Air Force. Jeff’s daughter, Casey and husband, Zach live in Carterville, IL. Jeff’s younger son, Jeremiah and wife, Lily live in Herrin, IL. Sheryl’s son, Logan, died in 2017. Jeff and Sheryl have three grandchildren: Alaina, Branson and William.
