The Pumpkin Prayer

Hello Friends!

With Halloween approaching fast, I’m sure we are all excited to dress up in our costumes and eat all the candy we can get! What are you dressing up as for Halloween? I originally wanted to go as a donkey since a donkey is the only animal with a cross on its back, but now I think I want to dress up like a pumpkin! I bet you’re thinking that I am going to go as a Jack-o-lantern that has big eyes, a triangle shaped nose, and a mouth filled with fangs. That does sound pretty scary. But I am thinking of going as God’s pumpkin….the God-o-lantern!

In order to help me think about my costume a little more, I was wondering if you could help me. As I carve out my design on a smaller pumpkin, could you pray with me?

Dear God,

Open my mind so I can learn about You (cut the top of the pumpkin).

Take away all my sin and forgive me for the wrong things I do (clean out the inside).

Open my eyes so Your love I will see (cut the eyes out in heart shapes).

I’m sorry for turning up my nose to all You’ve given me (cut a nose in the shape of a cross).

Open my ears so your word I will hear (cut the ears shaped like the Bible).

Open my mouth so I can tell others You are near (cut the mouth in the shape of a fish).

Let your light shine in all I say and do (place a candle inside and light it)!

Because God, I want to always love you!

AMEN.

Thank you so much for helping me get my Halloween costume ready! Going as a God-o-lantern is way better than any old, scary, Jack-o-lantern. Now, let’s figure out who is handing out the best candy this year!

Your Friend, Holy Spirit (Ghost)!
