Love Letters From Paul
Hello Friends,
How are you doing today? With Valentine’s Day tomorrow, did any of you have a Valentine’s Day party at school last week or are you having a party tomorrow? I remember when I was your age, for every Valentine’s Day party at school that I attended I had to make a Valentine’s Day box. I usually used a shoebox and then decorated it with either stickers, colored paper, or just random drawings of hearts. If I remember correctly, one year my Valentine’s Day box was a pirate ship, another year was a car, and another year it was a treasure chest. It was always a blast to hand out Valentine’s Day Cards and open up the box at the end of the day to see what was inside!
Speaking of Valentine’s Day Cards, did you know that the Apostle Paul also created Valentine’s cards for people? Paul was a faithful follower of Jesus; and it was his job to spread the good news to individuals and towns that needed to be given certain instructions on how to live like Jesus. Today, we call these instructions “Paul’s Love Letters.” Paul wrote to the Romans, to the people in Galatia, Ephesus, and in Philippi. He also wrote to the Colossians as well as to Philemon and Timothy. Among these famous love letters, Paul wrote a very powerful love letter to the people in Corinth. In this particular love letter, Paul instructed the people on what love is.
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends….” The love that Paul writes about is a love that Jesus gives us so that we can share it with others. This love is what will help people know that they are loved!
This Valentine’s Day, I encourage you to share, with everyone, a love that is patient, kind, caring, nice, friendly, and lasts forever and not mean or hurtful. Don’t be afraid to put a Valentine’s Day Card in everyone’s box. If Paul can write many love letters to many strangers, then we can share our love with those around us.
